WHO ARE GLI PARTICIPANTS?
Are you at the early-to-mid stage of your career, seeking to enhance your global fluency, leadership, and cultural diplomacy skills? Whether you find yourself jet-setting across the globe for work, leading virtual meetings with international clients, or managing relationships at the home office with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, GLI is designed for professionals like you. If you are based in the greater Philadelphia area and are ready to make the necessary time commitments, you’ll join a cohort of like-minded professionals dedicated to elevating their leadership potential on the world stage.
WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW?
Over the course of three months, participants will engage in four dynamic sessions in Philadelphia, as well as networking, mentorship, and volunteer opportunities.
SESSION 1: KICK OFF & CULTURAL DIPLOMACY TRAINING
- Initial Greetings, Titles, Forms of Address
- Non-Verbal Communication Across Cultures and the Significance of Silence
- Taboo and Auspicious Symbols, Colors, Numbers, and Gestures
SESSION 2: INTERNATIONAL DINING ETIQUETTE DINNER
- Global Dining Etiquette: From seating to cutlery to offering a toast
- Delicacies, Décor, and Food Faux Pas
SESSION 3: IN-DEPTH CULTURAL DIPLOMACY TRAINING
- Verbal Communication Skills: From subtle delivery of bad news to appropriate praise.
- Establishing Trust & Building Relationships
- Negotiating Techniques
- Integrative Complexity and Cognitive Dissonance across Cultures
SESSION 4: IN-DEPTH CULTURAL DIPLOMACY TRAINING
- International Sales & Marketing Variables
- Egalitarian to Authoritarian Cultures
- Diverse Approaches to Logic and Persuasion
- Global Gift-Giving

Program Fees
Participation in the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia’s Global Leadership Institute has a program fee of $1,500, due by July 31, 2024, for the Fall 2024 cohort and by October 23, 2024, for the Winter 2025 cohort.
If you are being sponsored by a corporate partner of World Affairs, that fee may be reduced or waived. The program fee will be confirmed for each individual during the application review process.
